This is at Luther Burbank Jr High for my 9th grade graduation. It was a requirement that we wore certain type of clothing attire for the graduation assembly. Girls had to wear 2" heels which for most wasn't a problem but for me it created a huge problem. I could only wear flats so we had to get my "appliance" man, Mr. Massey, to have him create an aid that would allow me to wear 2" heels. It wasn't that easy to adjust to this new way of walking - I had to practice and practice to do it just right. Of all things, I was asked to be the graduating student to be on the stage and ask everyone to "Please stand to say the Pledge of Allegiance" and then led the entire audience in the Pledge. Such a simple task but I felt as if everyone was watching me walk! Even though this was an added expense, Dad made sure I wouldn't be different. He tried so hard to be sure I had the right care from the beginning. Mom said that he worked my foot from the day I was born exercising it even though the doctors said I probably wouldn't walk. He proved them wrong & I walked at a normal age because of his help.
This being April 14th and Dad would of been 102 today, I thought I'd post this picture of him & I since this was one of those days out of many that he helped make it better for me!
Thanks Dad - Love YOU - Miss YOU!
